Metamorphosis Animation

In GT, we needed to animate a story using what we know, our focus statement, and our imagination. Our focus statement is "People alter Mike". Our story was about a teenager, Mike, who got bullied and teased everyday of his life, so he decided to do something about it. He, flies off and turns into a bird that nose dives into a bookstore, where he then jumps out of his life, and into a new one. We used digital animation and stop motion to animate. Overall I think our video was good in some areas and not so good in others, but still, I think this project was a fun way to express our creativity in a whole new way.

Words Of Wisdom

For our GT project, Elder Words of Wisdom, we needed to interview a person we knew had wisdom that could apply to our lives. We decided to interview Gino Quintana, a semi professional soccer player, who inspired us to set goals for ourselves, and then pushing us to achieve them. When filming our video, our team member Emiliano De La Mora had to take out the camera and film during his practice to get b-roll. He also did his interview at his home so then we could get his interview.

Five Tips For...

For our five tips video, our topic was on five tips to get good grades in school. For some people, getting good grades in school, especially in 8th grade at Kapaa Middle School, it can be a tough challenge. Our purpose was to give tips to people who have a hard time with grades in school. In our video, we could have focused our images a little better. Also, the audio could have been turned down.

Practice Profile Story

For our practice story, my second period G.T class had to divide into seven teams of three, but our group had four. It consisted of me, Emiliano De La Mora, Maverick Yadao, and our interviewee, Tyler Hicks. The purpose of our practice story, when we interviewed Tyler Hicks, was to help us practice our interview composition, b-roll sequencing, and help our skills as editors improve. our groups had to choose someone to interview. We chose Tyler because he does some interesting things like parkour, or better known as free running in America.

Profile Project Progress

In our project, Gino Quintana, a semi professional soccer player, learns how to balance his school work, with his sports. As he travels the world playing soccer against other national teams from Europe, and other countries; he finds a way where he isn't falling behind in school. We filmed him at his house where he was comfortable enough to express his true self without being to worried about the camera. We wanted the viewers to be able to see just how difficult school can be, especially high school, when you miss class. We chose him because he was the perfect example of how to balance sports and school in a way that was organized.

During our interview we needed to get a profile shot so we can see his entire face, and we also used a rule of thirds shot type to add interest to our video. Our b-roll however, we got super creative and got all types of unique angle, but we still needed to be extremely careful because of possible wind and flying balls and when we were filling out or production plan.We also had some problems with our team members not doing their assignment. In order to prevent this from happening, we needed to keep reminding him to keep on task.

Overall I think that we need to reshoot most of our video. In our video, we had some errors that we need to correct such as interview composition, audio levels, and the overall quality of the video. On Saturday, Emiliano took home a camera to reshoot the b-roll and interview to help improve the video. Hopefully this will increase the quality of our video exponentially.

Composition Techniques

The main four composition techniques include a rule of thirds technique, a framing shot, an unusual angle, and leading lines. In every camera shot, frame, or angle, there is a 3x3 grid, even if you can't see it. The rule of thirds shot uses the grid to help create an interesting shot. It basically lines up the subject in one of the three columns;left, middle, or right. A framing shot is fairly simple. It uses a natural or artificial objects to "frame" your subject. An unusual angle uses new perspectives to get a creative angle, instead of an uninteresting camera shot. Leading lines, as the name implies, are lines that lead your line of sight to your subject.

Three Shot Sequences

Three shot sequences are crucial in making great visual story telling. A three shot sequence is a sequence composed of a wide, medium, and close up camera angle. The sequence starts with a wide angle camera shot, gradually getting closer to the subject you are filming. It then uses a medium camera shot, then a close up camera shot, then an extreme . Three shot camera sequences add more depth to your video by creating other perspectives which make your video interesting and exciting. It can also make your video clearer and more understandable. If you have one single shot, it gets boring. Whereas a three shot sequence, it gets more in depth and understandable.
